Everything you need to know about safety certificates, roadworthy inspections, COI and pre-purchase in Brisbane.

Safety Certificates & Roadworthy

A Queensland Safety Certificate covers the key safety items required under the Code of Practice. Our inspector checks:

  • Wheels and tyres
  • Brakes and suspension
  • Steering
  • Body rust or damage
  • Windscreen and glass
  • All lights
  • Modifications
  • Seats and restraints
  • Oil leaks
  • Handbrake

If the vehicle passes, the certificate is issued on the spot. The inspection takes less than an hour at your home or workplace.

A safety certificate is not a full mechanical inspection. Passing does not mean:

  • The vehicle's general condition has been signed off on
  • The engine, transmission or electrics are fault-free
  • The vehicle won't need repairs in future

If you want a full assessment of the vehicle's condition before buying, that's what our pre-purchase inspection is for.

If your vehicle doesn't pass, you'll receive a detailed report of what needs to be fixed. You have 14 days to address the issues and arrange a re-inspection.

We'll walk you through exactly what's needed. We don't carry out repairs ourselves — no conflict of interest, ever.

You need a Queensland Safety Certificate when:

  • Selling or transferring a registered vehicle
  • Re-registering a vehicle after registration has lapsed
  • Clearing a defect notice

Selling without one is illegal. Under the Queensland Transport Act, advertising a vehicle for sale without a current safety certificate can result in significant fines.

The seller is legally responsible for providing a current safety certificate — not you. Never let a seller pressure you into getting your own. If repairs are needed to pass, that's their cost, not yours.

A safety certificate only confirms the car met minimum safety standards at the time of inspection. For peace of mind about the vehicle's actual condition, add a pre-purchase inspection.

A Queensland Safety Certificate is valid for 2 months or 2,000 km — whichever comes first. After that, a new certificate is required before the vehicle can be sold or transferred.

Plan your sale within that window to avoid needing a second inspection.

COI & Rideshare

A COI is an annual compliance inspection required for rideshare vehicles (Uber, DiDi, Ola, Bolt) and limousines operating in Queensland.

Our inspectors are approved to issue COIs. Book the same way as a safety certificate — we come to you.

Pre-Purchase Inspections

Our pre-purchase inspection is a comprehensive independent assessment of the vehicle's condition — not just safety, but mechanical, structural, and history. Includes:

  • Full mechanical check (engine, transmission, cooling, electrical)
  • Structural and body inspection
  • PPSR check via VIN (finance, stolen, written-off history)
  • Detailed written report with photos
  • 90-day / 5,000 km guarantee on our findings

We're completely independent — we're not selling you the car, so you get an honest assessment.

If a major fault we missed comes up within 90 days or 5,000 km of our pre-purchase inspection, we'll cover it. It's our way of standing behind our work.

Note: The 90-day guarantee applies to pre-purchase inspections only, not safety certificates or COI.
